Adoptable Horses

Adoptable Horses

The following horses are now available for adoption.  Each has a short biography including their disposition and extent of training and, if available, a current photo.  If you think you might like to pursue an adoption, give Deb a call and set up a time to meet the horses.  There may be more horses available than listed, so please call Deb for an up to date list of adoptable horses.  Adoption fee is $250 and is tax deductible.  Horses with an * next to their name are adoptable for the adoption fee only.  All other horses, housed onsite, have an additional fee specific to their training and care given while at the facility.

Age:  14 years old

Bio:  Cash is a big beautiful Quarter/Arab cross.  He stands at 16.1 hands, and has been trail ridden all over the US and Canada.  Cash has cushings, which is what led his previous owners to surrender him to Horse Heaven.  New owner will need to stay in contact with previous owners to give updates on his progress. Cash likes to GO and will do anything you ask! He is doing very well on his medications for the cushings (cost is $47 per month). Cash will need to be kept off Spring grass or use a grazing muzzle (which we have and will be included with his adoption).  He is a sweet guy, and is up to date on all care.

*Dreamer

Sex:  Gelding

Age:  9 years old

Bio:  Dreamer is a Quarter Horse that had never been worked with when he arrived at Horse Heaven this past summer.  We started working on his ground manners, and he has had minimal saddle work completed.  He will need a trainer/experienced horse person to finish him.  He is not for an inexperienced rider, or, young child.  Dreamer is very pretty and has working Quarter Horse breeding.  He is papered.  Dreamer has not had his teeth done, however, he is up to date on all other care.

*Sally  **ADOPTION PENDING**

Sex:  Mare

Age:  15 years old

Bio: Sally is a purebred Appy mare white with roan on her legs and body.  She has a great disposition and would make a great beginner horse.  She has been a broodmare for the last few years, but will ride with halter and clip on reins, and likes to go slow.  Sally has had some training in the past.  She is up to date on all care.

*Sebastian

Sex:  Gelding

Age:  Approx. 16 years old

Bio:  Sebastian is a large, stout palamino pony.  He stands at 14.1 hands.  Sebastian would be a good beginner pony for the kids to learn on.  He loves kids, and is very laid back.  While he has been at Horse Heaven, he has been let out in the yard all day long in the warm months, and he just stays there and eats! He will ride out alone.  Sebastian does have arthritis, however, not in his joints and he has never been lame.  He gives a nice ride for adults too!  Sebastian has had complete previous training.  Currently he is used for lessons, pony rides and kids camp.  He is up to date on all routine care.

May Day

Sex:  Mare

Bio:  May Day was born here at Horse Heaven.  She loves attention, and will let you know when you are not giving it to her!  May Day has a nice muscular build and a sturdy frame and stands at 15.1 hands tall.  She is a King Bred Quarter/Morgan cross and is a gorgeous black with brown muzzle.  She has been working with a volunteer trainer and has over 120 days of riding under a western saddle.   May Day must have an experienced, firm rider.  No beginners please.  She is very smart, and knows it, and she can be quite stubborn.  May Day round pens, loads, leads, backs, and picks up all of her feet for the farrier and during grooming.

*Stormy

Amira **Adoption Pending**

Sex:  Mare

Age:  4 years old

Bio:  Amira is half Arabian, with her sire being a bay Tobiano.  She is a beautiful chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail, with white socks, and a blaze.  Amira loves her human companionship, and is very laid back and mellow.  Her ground work is complete and has some riding hours.  She would be a great horse for a small rider, as she is on the smaller size herself.  Amira enjoys being groomed, and picks up all of her feet.

Just A Chief

Sex:  Gelding

Age:  8 years old

Bio:  Chief is a triple registered Pinto Arabian.  He is fairly laid back, without the typical Arabian attitude.  He would do best with an experienced, firm, and confident owner.   Chief's rider should be no more than 125 pounds, due to an old leg injury that does not effect the weight bearing part of his hoof. He enjoys his human companions, grooming, and attention.   He is trained in both western and english, and round pens.  Just A Chief trail rides and will ride out alone.  He would make a great 4-H project!  Chief picks up all feet, and responds to all physical cues.

Hopscotch (Hoppy) **Adoption Pending**

Sex:  Mare

Age: 3 years old

Bio:  Hoppy is a small POA/Arab cross, with a distinctive pattern that makes her look as if she has been dusted with powdered sugar!  She came from South Dakota and had a terrible bout of pneumonia when she came to us.  She is in sound condition now, and ready for a forever home of her own!  She has been here at horse heaven for two years now.  Hoppy is sweet, and willing to learn.  She round pens, picks up her feet, and has some light riding, both bareback and saddle.  Hoppy would be a great horse for a small rider, due to her smaller size.

Shiloh

Sex:  Mare

Age:  4 years old

Bio:  Shiloh is a QH/Tennessee Walker cross.  She has some spirit and get up and go!  She is a champagne with dark blonde mane and caramel eyes.  Shiloh is currently part of our sister program, Healing Hearts with Horses, but available for adoption.  She has good ground manners, round pens, and has been ridden western and english.  Would probably do best with an experienced rider.

Decksie

Sex:  Filly

Age:  2 years old

Bio:  Decksie is a sweet chestnut Quarter Horse with three white socks.  She enjoys her human companions and their attention.  Judging by her current size at 2 years old, Decksie will be a fairly sturdy adult!  Decksie has had some light riding and has good ground manners that continue to be worked on.  She does trailer without much fuss, but prefers a larger trailer space to smaller.  Decksie picks up her feet just fine for grooming and farrier.  The one who chooses her will have a wonderful, responsive horse!

*Cocoa

Sex:  Mare

Age:  3 years old

Bio:  Cocao is an Arab pony.   She is very unsure of new things and situations, and will spook easily at this time.  Cocoa works regularly on ground manners in the round pen.  Cocoa has not had any time under saddle.  She does pick up her feet, but is wary of being caught from the pasture.  She enjoys her grooming sessions, Cocoa will make a wonderful equine companion for a patient handler/trainer.

Cookie and Shaky

**These horses are placed on our website as a service to the current owner, and are not part of the Horse Heaven Equine Rescue.  All adoption proceedings and communications are completed through the current owner.

Sex:  Mother and Daughter Mares

Age:  Cookie is 9, Shaky is 6

Shaky is a registered palomino paint.  She has had a rider on her back, but has not been formally trained under saddle.  Shaky is overdue for farrier work and has never had her teeth worked on as well.

These horses have never been separated, and need to be placed together per current owner's request.  The owner is upset by needing to place her beloved horses with another family, however, life changes have made it unavoidable.  Cookie and Shaky are not residents of Horse Heaven Equine Rescue, but are placed on our website at the request of the current owner.  They reside in Lorimar, IA.  If you have a home that these two beauties could call home, please call Donna at 515-468-0597.

Beaus a Dandy (Tate)

Sex:  Gelding

Age:  13

Bio:  Tate is a quarter horse with navicular and will need regular farrier care. He wants to be ridden, but has not been ridden with consistency since his navicular was discovered about four years ago.  Due to this, he would be good for light riding.  Tate is currently housed in Guthrie Center, and not a part of Horse Heaven Rescue and placed on the site at the request of the current owners.  If you have the good home he is seeking, please give Deb a call for information on how to reach Tate's current owners.

Claire

**This horse is placed on our website as a service to the current owner, and is not part of the Horse Heaven Equine Rescue.  All adoption proceedings and communications are completed through the current owner.

Sex:  Mare

Age:  11 years old

Bio:  Claire is a Percheron/Standard Bred Cross at 17 hands. Very gentle, sweet girl who is great in the cross ties. She does have advanced arthritis in her back haunch which does limit her to walking only, which she is very comfortable doing. She would also need to have access to her food and water on a level area for her to get to, mainly she would not be comfortable being challenged such as going up hill at all times for these things.
